For some reason email isn't given the same thought or strategy as other marketing channels, which is baffling because email provides the highest ROI of any channel. According to the DMA, email's ROI in 2009 is $43.52, compared to Internet marketing's $19.97, and catalog marketing's $7.25. The DMA also found that email is still getting a dismal average of .4% of direct marketers budgets. Email is a lot less expensive than other channels so it doesn't need as big a cut; but it's time for companies to invest in and perfect their sending procedures as email can still make them the most money.
Stop thinking of email as a cheap way of blasting out whatever new message comes to mind and start planning strategic email campaigns that work together to deliver the right offers at the right times.
